As rock music increasingly gained in popularity over the last few decades, playing the guitar became very tempting for many people. Of course many of these would-be musicians are teenagers with dreams of becoming rock superstars, but many others just want to learn how to play guitar for the fun of it. Unfortunately, many that try to learn guitar are unable to find a successful method and eventually give up.
Different people have different requirements when it comes to learning. Not only that, people have different resources to apply to education, as well as different jobs and schedules that put constraints on their time. If you’re trying to learn how to play guitar and you’re not yet at your desired level, it may be because you haven’t found the best means of instruction. Learning how to play the guitar can be done in several ways. Here are just a few of them.
1. Using Theory Books.
Thousands of music books are on the market that teach people of all skill levels how to learn to play the instrument. Some are very good and can give you the information you need to learn. Many people view books as an inexpensive and relaxed method for learning how to play guitar. Unfortunately, experience has shown that this method doesn’t work for many people. But if you are a person with a lot of patience, a theory book could be the best track to take in learning to play guitar.
Video Music Lessons
You can purchase video guitar lessons on DVD or video tape from almost any music store and in many virtual shops. You can also find some online video lessons. Some of them are actually free of charge. Video lessons have the advantage of being more dynamic and therefore are more likely to keep your attention. And there is the advantage of your being able to practice at home at your total convenience. But the disadvantage is that you are indeed alone, so you can’t benefit from the one-to-one attention and comments of a teacher.
Private Lessons
If you are willing and able to commit quite a bit of time and money to this, private lessons are most assuredly the best way of all to learn guitar. An experienced teacher has the skill to custom-design a learning program that suits your learning style, and a teacher can give you the individualized attention and positive feedback you need. Plus, your teacher will be able to find your mistakes and correct them before they become bad habits.
Learning to Play By Ear
Learning the guitar by ear can be a lot of fun and may be the best method for you to learn guitar, particularly if you have a strong musical bone and it is humming with vibration. With the present slowing down technology, it is much easier than it was for our parents’ generation.
You need to constantly remember that playing the guitar should be a matter of fun. Should you find the endeavor hard or stressful, it may simply be due to your learning technique. Many times it is a matter of trial and error before you find the method that is going to work the best for you. But if you truly yearn to play the guitar like a pro and have sufficient time and money, taking private lessons is likely the best path to follow.
