Website And All

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Websites are so common these days that many people think of them as an everyday convenience. The average user would not even consider the amount of effort that goes into a website and that is not due to ignorance, it is just down to inexperience of the average user and what has become normality. Is that a bad thing though? Not really as in their own way the average user is your target market and building for them will more than likely bring success to your online portal / business whichever it maybe.

With all that in mind let’s just say you are business ready to create your online presence in world. You have options when creating a website do it yourself, hire professionals or hire your mum’s auntie’s cousin who is a student at University studying web design. Well let’s look at each option and consider them carefully. First off you consider creating the website yourself and you have found and online solutions that will help you create the site every step of the way. Ok great so you have found yourself an option that is most probably cheap and in most ways will seem very appealing, however your considerations should not stop here.

Obviously your own experience will just be with using websites to buy items or for research. Do you understand that thoughts that went behind the build of the site, the design, and the calls to action that will have prompted you to buy certain products or the technologies that go behind it? Also if you build a site in this way will it be search friendly otherwise there is no point. You really are in deep water here without experience and this cheap solution may well be good but it most likely will not cover everything you need.

So the next option is to hire a professional. Like any kind of work you have done whether it is your home roof, car, building work you will always do the same and get a few quotes and work done by people recommended to you. This works in exactly the same way, you will test them on their ability, look at their previous, and look at recommendations. Most people will find success with a good web design agency. Don’t consider this as the expensive option as there really are some very good cheap web design agencies out there with some very good skill. The advantage you have aswell is the cheap web design industry is ram packed with people and finding a good tangible solution should not be hard.

Ok the last option ‘your mum’s auntie’s cousin who is a student at University studying web design’. Depending on whom this student is this may or may not work for several reasons. First off they may not have any legitimate experience in the industry so may be very limited in their knowledge of current web design standards and technologies, however that’s not to say they can’t design a website. You have to judge this correctly in the same way that you wouldn’t allow a roofer to repair your roof without any experience. My advice is to stick with using a professional web design agency to ensure they get everything right for your business.

A Christmas Carol As Mexicans See It

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Playwright Juan Antonio Ramos grew bored of seeing interpretations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, having grown up a poor immigrant in the US he felt little connection with the characters, he says “I found them too ‘English pudding’ for my tastes” so he imagined life would have been like in his town back in the 19th century. This idea evolved into his own play A Mexican Christmas Carol about the culture in which he was raised that will premier on the main stage of the Western Stage Theater at Hartnell College, Salinas, California.

The playis set in an poor pueblo in central Mexico in the 1800s, it follows the basic premise of Dickens’ novel except that the main characters including, including those representing Scrooge, the ghosts and Bob Cratchit, are all women.

Ramos says: “This is because, from my experience, Mexican culture is very matriarchal, the women in my family were very strong and resilient. All these women have these characteristics.”

The role which is based on Scrooge is Dona Avaricia, that’s lady avarice in English, who is wealthy and aristocratic. She is the landowner for the whole town and wields her power over the indigenous population who live there. There is no ‘dinero facil’ for any of these people and Dona Avaricia squeezes every last peso out of them.

Dona Avaricia is Hispanic and regards herself as superior to the others who live in the town, including the character who reflects the original Bob Cratchit; the housekeeper Amparo.

When Dona Avaricia is haunted by the spirits of Christmases past, present and future they all have particular Mexican cultural significance, the emphasis is less on money but on race and prejudice, although none of the characters would ever qualify for a prestamos personales en efectivo or a prestamos inmediatos the emphasis is on the prejudices that Dona Avaricia is able to leave behind.
