Webmasters and Web Design - 3 Most Important Tasks

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

One of the greatest business of the day is an online business. Using a blog or static website is the best way to make money online. Webmasters builde websites that focus on a niche. With the huge amount of traffic potential and exposure the Internet provides, the possibilities are endless.

The online business is not taught in schools and there is no degree, most of us are self-taught utilizing the many free resources and free webmaster tools that teach and provide support for webmastering, Internet marketing and web design.

Many think they cannot build a great website because they do not know code. This is not true, there are so many great ways to build websites and blogs, that do not require any knowledge of code, programming or design, so most anyone who is willing to work hard and put in the time necessary can succeed online. There are also tons of free places to get website templates so they design element is much easier and there is no coding knowledge required.

There are countless hideaous websites that make common mistakes that cost them visitors and money. These mistakes are sometimes in design, which is a sure fire way to send visitors flying off the site. Other times they are mistakes in promotion, where webmasters do not perform the required tasks for SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, which, when done correctly, is what enables websites to rank high in Search Engine Page Results (SERPS) and what brings the precious traffic that is necessary for success.

3 Top Webmaster Tasks

1. The Power of the Link for SEO

One of the cornerstones of SEO is link building, which is where links from external sites leading to yours leads to higher SERP rankings. The most important part of the link is the anchor text. The anchor text must have the keywords the site is targeting.

Many just add the URL or innacurate keywords in the anchors resulting in no SERP rankings or traffic.

2. Good Website Design

Another crucial task is to ensure good design with pleasing colors and good navigation.

a) Colors- Colors are important, not only for the look of the site, but because if the background color makes it too difficult to read the text then the visitor will quickly leave your site. A solid example of this is using black backgrounds with red or neon pink font that is harsh and irritating for the eyes. Many will leave your site because they find it hard to read.

The safest bet is to have a light background and dark text or vice versa.

b) Navigation – Another big mistake is to have confusing or worse non-existent navigation of all the content on the site. The website should provide clear navigation in the forms of menus, either left sidebar, right sidebar or top navigation bar form. The colors should also emphasize the navigation area, distinguishing its existence from the rest of the site. All the pages and content of your site should be easily and quickly accessible. The Internet crowd has a short attention span and if they cannot easily navigate they will leave.

3. Content

Lack of fresh, original and keyword relevant content is a typical newbie mistake. Deep webpages, those that have lots of pages are better for visitor retention. SERP positions are influenced somewhat by good original content.

The more content you have the more opportunity you will have for exposure to the ads, affiliate links, blog RSS buttons and whatever other actions you want visitors to perform.

Compare Digital Cameras for the Best Price

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Globally, picture taking has become a very wide-spread leisure activity.  Not only is it a hobby of some, but also a profession of many.  It has been so since the invention of the camera. With the passage of time, the technology has advanced in leaps and bounds and various types of cameras have been invented and produced. Digital camera is one such camera.  It is worthwhile to compare digital cameras if you really got to buy one.

Internet is full of websites that advertise sale of digital cameras.  These websites have almost all the information concerning them, i.e. service manuals, specification sheets, price comparisons, list of shops where cameras are available, user reviews, digital camera ratings and what not.  If you’re not a camera buff, the most prudent thing to do, without any doubt, is to consult these websites for a compare digital cameras exercise before physically purchasing one.

Prior to making a purchase of a digital camera, there are many things to be taken into consideration.  Among the many qualities that make a digital camera always stand out from the crowd are optical quality, zoom and storage media. If you are in doubt about those features in general, why not compare digital cameras at such a website where reviews from different sources are available.  It is truly useful to be in the know about those mechanics.

I have also seen that some websites have streamlined the comparison of various types of cameras with the comparison charts installed on those sites. What you’ve got to do is to press the ‘compare’ tab once you have marked out the conditions.  In an instant a comparison table will materialize on your PC screen. See how easy it is to compare digital cameras in order to make an intelligent buy.

You will be amazed at how subtle the comparisons of digital cameras are if and only when you check it up on a good website. I observed in one website a listing of around 50 items in a digital camera being evaluated. It is virtually impossible to do such a comparison without such advanced online technology.. Therefore, in the light of the above information, it is always best to browse the Internet and do a search for a good website where you can compare digital cameras so that you will have no regrets after buying your newest digital camera.

Singing Lessons At Home

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

I don’t think I know anyone who deep down wouldn’t want to be able to sing better. Singing is such a natural form of human expression. Not many people would turn down the opportunity to express themselves more freely. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t benefit from that.

You can really stand out from the crowd by being a good singer because in reality there are not so many good singers around. This means that you can inspire and influence people as a good singer. I know nobody who’d not enjoy the high of thunderous applause after completing a live performance. There is simply nothing quite like it! If you’re feeling inspired to sing I recommend checking out this learn to sing onlinewebsite.

Of course people have different singing goals. Some folks reach for the stars and dream of 50 000 adoring fans cheering them on. Other folks aspire to be the lead singer of a local band. These days, more and more folks wonder to themselves how it would be to impress the judges at the next American Idol audition. Or how about impressing your friends with your singing skills at the next karaoke night? Even if you just want to sing for the sheer enjoyment of it, that’s as good a reason as any to start singing lessons now.

The benefits in learning to sing are undeniable. I can think of so many excellent reasons to learn to sing and not one single drawback. Singing makes you feel good, it’s also proven to be good for health. Singing will also do so much for your self-confidence. It’s an awesome way to express yourself and be better understood.

So what holding you back? Most people are held back by a lack of confidence and fear. If you don’t feel comfortable with your voice, you wouldn’t be the first. It’s unfortunate to think that so many folks never discover how simple and fast it can be to improve their singing voice. Please don’t believe the myth that learning to sing is a born talent that can’t be learned. This is a common myth that is far from the truth.

Another common excuse for not singing is the cost of private singing lessons. This used to be quite a legitimate excuse, but not these days. The thing is that now there is a huge assortment of affordable and high quality home study singing lessons available that money is no longer a real barrier to becoming a singer.

Let me share with you just a couple of the many benefits of learning to sing at home. The most obvious benefit is learning to sing online is just so much more affordable. You also have the advantage of being able to schedule your singing practice whenever it’s most convenient for you. Don’t forget that you can also access the singing lessons as often as you need to. Bear in mind that you can upload the audio files to your mp3 player and practice your singing wherever you please. But surely the greatest benefit of home study singing courses is that you get to learn from the very best vocal coaches.

So it’s clear that you’ve no more excuses to not learn to sing like a star because singing has so many benefits and it’s so easy to do. This website has reviews of some great home study and online singing lessons.

Does Your Business Site Meet These Standards?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

In business, even the smallest details can make a difference. Your business’s website design is a public presentation of yourself to the world. Here are five urgent guidelines to check to assure that your business website performs in the way that it should.

1) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you sometimes see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like “welcome” or “click here to enter”. In fact, they are just that — pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the “back” button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page.

2) Avoid excessive banners

Eye tracking studies indicate that, while such banners might distract visitors to a website, modern visitors are accomplished at not noticing the content that the banners contain. Unless your business plan is advertising, the last thing you want to do with your visitors’ time on your site is to direct their attention away from your content (and the action that the content is designed to achieve).

3) Make sure your site navigation is intuitive

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don’t know how to navigate, they will leave your site.

4) Let your visitors see where they are on the site

If your site is well designed, users will easily flow from one page to another. However, along the way, they may feel like returning to a previously visited page to read it more carefully, to remind themselves of details or to compare one set of features to another. Provide a way for them to retrace their steps or to know how to get from “point g” back to “point c.” Using a breadcrumb trail serves this purpose very nicely.

5) Use audio only for clear purposes

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they’re not annoyed by some audio looping on and on at your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure the visitors have some control — volume or muting controls would work fine.

Custom Designing Corporate Logos For Construction Firms

Friday, June 19th, 2009

The construction arena is growing more and more competitive. Larger firms handle the major development projects while smaller and newer ones must display their quality with several subcontracts before moving on to larger ones.

My design agency has just been presented an assignment to produce a new construction logo design for a local construction company. To kick off the assignment, the art director and I dropped by our client’s office for a brief interview session to learn more about the company.

Like many others we have questioned, most companies are aware they need a new identity to remain competitive but are not exactly sure what they want. That is where we come into play.

Before embarking on the logo design, we usually inquire about the history of the firm, its turnover, its goals, its specialty, its target market and the reason it wants a new construction logo design; just to get a better feel of things.

We ascertained that they are a relatively young organization, 9 years in the business with 4 important subcontract projects and many smaller ones under their belts, each one more impressive than the last. They are now seeking to adopt a blue ocean strategy and proceed into eco-friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with a low number of competitors - and thus seizing the opportunity to garner a reputation for themselves as one of the first companies to service this niche.

From the meeting, we found out that they have the necessary resources to take on medium scale development projects. Their chosen niche also makes it easier to differentiate them from other developers.

At our agency, we had our usual brainstorming session and charted our art direction. Following that we employed the expertise of 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo samples to turn those ideas to images.

After a number of days, the logo concepts were ready for show. Some designs utilized stylized text while others used construction related graphics like levelers and trowels to get the point across. Although all 4 construction logo design samples were unique in their own way, they all kept to to two main points.

Professionalism
Developers deal with multimillion dollar projects. In order to be awarded such projects, they must always be regarded as a professional and responsible entity with admirable business ethics. Hence, the smooth and clear designs reflected that appropriately.

Eco-Friendliness
This is the niche this firm is determined to penetrate. Obviously, the designs, either by color or graphics, calls to attention the company’s dedication to the preservation of the environment.

Now it is up to our clients to choose the design the prefer. Alternatively they could make changes here and there but as professional designers, we must make certain the design eventually keeps to the key points expressed earlier.
